While we can not begin to address the many questions posed to us on a web page, we have posted the more common or Frequently Asked Questions.
The answers to these questions are basic in nature and intended to be as strait forward and concise as possible. We encourage anyone truly interested in more depth in answers to any questions to contact a Minister of the Independent Faith Church or email the Presiding Minister .
For more in depth information about any of these questions, our doctrine & philosophy, please visit our Fundamental Doctrine page.
What is “Trans-denominational”?
Trans-denominational means bridging the differences across religions to focus on shared spiritual values. Our approach centers on self-realization, unity, and interconnectedness beyond any one doctrine. We respect individual beliefs and support each person’s journey to divine discovery, rather than focusing on dogmatic differences, which we see as technicalities of little consequence in the bigger picture.
Are you a Christian religion?
While we follow the teachings of Jesus, we do not believe He is the only path to spiritual truth or divinity. We respect and incorporate insights from many spiritual leaders, believing that all religions are tools for self-discovery. Whether we are “Christian” depends on individual perspective, as we do not exclusively teach one path but embrace many, unified by love and acceptance of all. That is what we beliueve Jesus would do.
Do you pray?
We believe that prayer is a form of communication with the divine, which can be expressed as a way of living. Formal prayer is a tool for focusing intent, but ultimately, a life of integrity and presence becomes its own form of prayer. We encourage each person to pray in a way that is meaningful to them.
Do you believe in Heaven and Hell?
To us, heaven is a state of peaceful, present communion with the divine, while hell is separation from this state, often due to regret or worry. We do not speculate on an afterlife but focus on experiencing “heaven” here by being fully present and aligned with our higher self. Hell, in our view, is a mental state, not a physical place.
Do you believe in good and evil and that good should be rewarded and evil punished?
We see good and evil as potentials within everyone, expressed through choices. Rather than divine rewards or punishment, we believe in the Law of Natural Consequences: each action brings its own outcome, naturally guiding us toward growth or struggle.
Do you believe in the Bible?
We recognize the Bible as a historical compilation of spiritual insights, but we do not consider it the sole, literal word of God. While it contains valuable lessons, we are aware of its history of revisions, translations, and influences. We include it among our studies, respecting its contributions without relying on it exclusively.
What if you are wrong?
We focus on what feels true to us: a path based on love, self-discovery, and unity. We do not fear eternal punishment, as we do not believe in a punitive God. To those who wonder “what if” about heaven or hell, we say that we trust in a loving existence and would rather focus on embodying love than fear.
